This work explores the concept of feminine beauty, complex emotions and rage viewed through a Punk era lens.
Bitten Lips is created with attitude - and hand cut dichroic glass in jewel colours, placed mosaic style to form voluptuous lips.
The base layer of glass has a distressed effect with graffiti grunge lurking in the shadows.
The top layer of clear glass is manipulated and 'splintered' over the lettering to expose raw 'bitten lips' beneath.
In the final design stage, hand painted graffiti is is scattered over the piece.
I was inspired to add the graffiti including #RIOTWOMEN after watching the hit BBC drama Riot Women written by Sally Wainwright and starring Rosalie Craig as the formidable Kitty.
 
Fused several times in a hot kiln, each item takes days to complete.
 
A smart wood base is supplied with this item.
